Manila, Philippines- the Philippines is a hazard-prone country, facing an average of 20 typhoons a year. Recently, the country faced another disaster named Typhoon Tisoy, several areas in Luzon and the Visayas alarmed themselves by mobile alerts from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) as they are required by law to send free mobile alerts before disasters happen under Republic Act No. 10639 or the Free Mobile Disaster Alerts Act.

Everyone received alerts that sometimes come as pop-ups on the phone screen along with an alarm and vibrate.

Many mobile phone users found these alerts as an alarming and to keep everyone safe and informed. In addition, other Twitter users appreciated the efforts of the NDRRMC and see the minor inconvenience a “mini-heart attack” causes to be a small price to pay safety and awareness.
